A keen Leicester City supporter and pathetic golfer, and author of A New Approach To Coaching Soccer (1997) The Essential Soccer Coaches Handbook (2000) and Soccer Coaches Handbook.net (Web site) (2018)

Career: Born in Leicester, England in 1946, educated at Marriot Road Junior School and Linwood School in Leicester. I emigrated to Australia in 1969.

In Australia I played soccer as a semi-professional player (there were no fully professional teams in 1970's) I played in NSW and in Perth for SMA (Ascot Soccer Club in Perth) and Tarringa Soccer Club in Queensland, I then played Amateur Premier League in Perth with WAIT and Windsor Athletic Soccer Clubs. In 1974 I took up coaching and passed Level 1, 2 and 3 badges and coached Windsor to league Championships and Cup wins and was invited to take the Amateur State Soccer Team into the Interstate Championships. My State Team coaching record is below.

Played  38 Won 23 Drew 6 Lost 9 Goals For 109 Against 55

I also became an Academy Coach for Junior Developing players and State Team Coach of the WA Women's State Soccer Team (1990 -1993), I was voted Coach of the Year in 1993 and I was inducted into the Soccer Hall of Fame (WA) in 2012

I was employed as a semi-professional soccer coach in 1973 being paid about $5000 per season, I then went on to coach a Premier League Amateur Club about 1975 - 1977 and we won the league and cup in both first team and reserves and I was asked to become the coach the WA Amateur State Team. I started using my updated grids whilst coaching at my son's junior club, we had players asking to join as word got around about how the sessions were all action and fun, eventually we had to put another team into the junior competition. I developed the grids and worked on players moving and swapping roles so that the grid kept all players moving and that is how my first book was created in 1996/7 as a printed book called A New Approach To Coaching Soccer, later it turned into an email book sending out chapters around the world in about ten emails so I put the book onto a CD and sent these out (I got a nice letter from the coaching staff at Leeds Utd soccer club) anyway I then changed the name in 1985 to The Essential Coaching Handbook but settled on a web based set of grids now called The Soccer Coaching Handbook with about 250 grids. This I am giving to any soccer coach with free access to a basic version of the book via this web site.
